Life is Curveballs

Posted 2008/05/27 00:37
"Consider it pure joy, my brother, whenever you face trials fo many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance." James 1:2~3

In baseball, the role of the pitcher is very important. It is the type of balls that they throw, and where the pitcher is located that determines if the better gets a hit or gets out.
A curveball is ball that comes into the zone that looks like it is very hittable but at the very last second dives down or to the side and you just simply miss. In life, God is the pitcher and sometimes unexpected and unwanted hardships are thrown our way. It is how we deal with life's curveballs that define our true character. James tells us that when we are faced with trials that we should consider it pure joy because it is a test of out faith and it develops our perseverance.
When hardships come, God is not sitting in heaven wishing for you to fail. Rather he desires for us to persevere. With the recent tragedies in China and Myanmar, no one is wishing for them to spiral into even darker times, but we all want them to regroup and persevere through their hardship. God is the same way, he tested many people in the Bible but never once did he wish for them to fail the test. When you are faced with hardships, God is always there waiting for you to strive through the hardship and lean on him more.

Here I am To Worship

Light of the world
You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes let me see
Beauty that made this heart adore You
Hope of a life spent with You

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that You're my God
You're altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

King of all days
Oh so highly exalty
Glorious in heaven above
Humbly You came to the earth You created
All for love's sake became poor

I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross

Living with Hope

Posted 2007/10/28 21:19

Optimism and hope are radically different attitudes. Optimism is the expectation that things- the weather, human relationships, the economy, the political situation, and so on -- will get better. Hope is the trust that God will fulfill God's promises to us in a way that leads us to ture freedom. The optimist speaks about concrete changes in the future. The person of hope lives in the moment with the knowledge and trust that all of life is in good hands.
All the great spiritual leaders in history were people of hope. Abraham, Moses, Ruth, Mary, Jesus, Rumi, Gandhi, and Dorothy Day lived with a promise in their hearts that guided them toward the future without the need to know exactly what it would look like. Let's live with hope.

Be Yourself

Posted 2007/10/28 21:18

Often we want to be somewhere other than where we are, or even to be someone other than who we are. we tend to compare ourselves constantly with others and wonder wht we are not as rich, as intelligent, as simple, as generous, or as saintly as they are. Such comparisons make us feel guilty, ashamed, or jealous. It is very important to realize that our vacation is hidden in where we are and who we are. We are unique human beings, each with a call to realize in life what nobody else can, and to realize it in the concrete context of the here and now.
We will never find our vacation by trying to figure out whether we are better or worse than others. we are good enough to do what we are called to do. Be yourself.
